We have received a letter from one of our readers who wanted to react to—and complement—the article written by Liesbeth den Besten on the closing of Louise Smit’s gallery. The content of the letter sheds some light on the second half of the gallery's history, and so we decided to publish it.
The discontinuation of Galerie Louise Smit is indeed a regrettable loss to the jewelry world. There are many eager, talented jewelry artists that deserve to be supported by specialized galleries. It was a good idea of Liesbeth den Besten to write some sort of eulogy about the 26 years Galerie Louise Smit existed. As a contemporary jewelry lover living in Amsterdam, I witnessed the gallery’s development through all these years. As the partner of Rob Koudijs, co-owner of Galerie Louise Smit for 10 years, I had a front-row view on what happened and often got personally involved.
